Bio
Derek is a Senior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology, and his work in the Conover Laboratory focuses on examining the effects of Neuraminidase, a virulence factor of the Influenza virus, on stem cell dynamics and the onset of Post-infectious Hydrocephalus (PIH) in early brain development. Outside of lab, he advocates for quality of life issues on campus in the Undergraduate Student Government as the Student Services Committee Chairperson, is a member of UConn Muay Thai Kickboxing, and works out a lot in the new Rec Center! A fun fact about Derek is that he is from Cupertino, CA, the headquarters of Apple, Inc.
